Founding Stage: Vision and Plans for the Seminary's Foundation (1960)

President: W. Howard Conrad

The idea of establishing a postgraduate theological institution in Central America came as a result of a visit by General Superintendent Dr. H.C. Powers in the middle of the 60's. This brought together a committee to study the possibility of creating a theological institution in Costa Rica.

Central American Nazarene Seminary was created in 1964. Then in 1968, Rev. William Howard Conrad was appointed to be the first president of the Seminary. He assumed the responsibilities of establishing purposes, goals, promotion, registration and the design of the campus. Before Conrad came to Costa Rica, he was a missionary in Peru serving at the Nazarene Biblical Seminary and other capacities.

E.P. Ellyson, one of our Nazarene founders, said that education and evangelism are partners pulling the same yoke which is the redemption of the lost. The history of our Church in Costa Rica and the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas joined together for the same purpose. Students and teachers from our institution founded many of the congregations in Costa Rica.
