Extension Stage: Residence and Extension Theological Education Programs
President: Rev. Jerry D. Porter (1979-1986)
In April of 1981 a commission of representatives from different Nazarene Theological Institutions in Central America, gathered to work on new ideas and projects that would result in an ambitious new program of theological studies by extension.
In July 1982, there were 600 students from 15 different districts of Latin America enrolled in the Extension Program and 80 students in the Residence Program. This type of education benefited a great number of Nazarene leaders and also from other denominations. Several recognized leaders of the Church in Costa Rica are graduates of our institution.
1985 became a turning point for the institution for both academic and ecclesiastical realms.
Later on a new program called Ministers in Service was added to the Extension Theological Studies, starting in Costa Rica and then extending into the countries of Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Guatemala. This program was effective and brought great fruit.
