New Church Specialites Training
September 11-14, 2009

In San Jose, Costa Rica on the campus of theNazarene Seminary of the Americas, the MAC Regional Office held a special weekend training in collaboration with New Church Specialties (NCS), a ministry devoted to the health and growth of churches in the USA and across the globe.
Dr. Larry McKain (Executive Director, NCS) and Larry Cook (Senior Consultant, NCS) visited the MAC Region to discuss the results of the implementation of the Refocus program and to determine the future of the partnership. The partnership began in 2007 with trainings in the Refocus aspect of the NCS ministry, which encourages churches to determine their strengths and weaknesses in order to bring about positive changes in the function of the church.
The dialogue took place with MAC Representatives Rev. Ramon Sierra (Mexico), Rev. David Webb (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, & Panama), Giovanni Monterroso (Guatemala, Honduras, & Salvador), Ronee Poe (Assistant at Regional Office) and Dr. Bernie Slingerland (NCS International Consultant, for the MAC Region).
Various pastors and leaders in the Costa Rica Central district attended the Saturday training and learned about ways to share vision and lead toward that vision so as to impact the local church.
On Sunday, an evangelistic service was held which included two special preaching times by the NCS leaders and ended with an anointed time of prayer for the congregation.
It was concluded that the MAC Region has benefited from the NCS Refocus project because all 38 districts have been introduced to the material/training and 20 districts are participating in the project. Also, 705 organized churches have held seminars and 415 have completed Action Plans for change. Planning is in progress to determine how the MAC Region can go to a new level utilizing the Refocus materials.
