Master's Degree Courses Begin at SENDAS main campus
March 2010

On February 22, ten students in the master's program began courses on the main campus in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The program lasts for sixteen months.  There are four students in the Master of Science in Religion program with emphasis in Orientation of the Family and six students in the same program with emphasis in Intercultural Studies.

There are four different countries represented in this group of students. Mehir Morga, Esther Quezada and Gabriela Lopez are from Mexico; Karla Giron, Vivian Juarez, Edin Delgado and Mercedez Juarez are from Guatemala; Dhariana Balbuena is from the Dominican Republic; and Jenny Diaz and Franlym Pena are from Nicaragua.

Each student has a different background and culture, but each one began this journey by leaving behind important things such as family, friends, work, church and each one has the same purpose: “To prepare myself to better serve God and the church.”

Many had certain difficulties in coming to SENDAS, but in the end, God helped each one to overcome the difficulties.  Guided by God and ready to give their all, they arrived to adapt to a new culture, study continually, work hard and serve in local churches with the goal of helping the district to plant a new church.

Gabriela Lopez, who is from Mexico, celebrated her birthday on March 7th, just after arriving in Costa Rica.  She misses her family and friends, but she is happy to have a new family here at SENDAS.

Edin Delgado and Mercedez Juarez, both from Guatemala, married only ten days before arriving at SENDAS.  Called and directed by God, they have decided to dedicate their first year of marriage to prepare themselves to be better servants, to help in the work of God and to do even more to complete the Grand Commission of God in this world.

Edin and Mercedez

Edin and Mercedez say, “We are very pleased to have come here to SENDAS.  We know that God has brought us here and although we miss our family and our country, we are excited to learn the new things that God will teach us during our time here.”

Jenny Diaz, from Nicaragua, felt the call of the God to study at SENDAS in 2008, so being obedient to the Lord, she began to prepare for her studies.  She had many issues with her family and finances, but God, in His miraculous way, provided what she needed just a few days before classes began.

Jenny Diaz

Jenny arrived on February 16th, and it was very difficult for her to leave her family and the discipleship class that she taught at church, but she is so sure of her call as one can see by these words she shared with those in Nicaragua:  “I love you all with all my heart, and I would like to stay here with you, but I love God even more and He is calling me.”

Each day there are new challenges, lessons and goals for these masters students.  While they are learning, God will be molding the heart of each one, forming their characters and their spirits.  Each student has great vision for the future and strong faith, but they know that their only hope is God.  The students have chosen a name for this part of the journey: “the adventure of faith.”
