School of Leadership
June 2010
The Theological Education Ministry for the MAC Region has recently developed a new training program called School of Leadership. The objective of this program is to bring basic theological education to local church members with excellence. This program has five general courses and six specialized courses from which the student may choose based on their ministerial call. The courses are designed in simple language for both the student and the teacher.

Dr. Monica Mastronardi, Vice-President of Institutional Development for SENDAS, has been working tirelessly with professors and students in the editing of the books.
During the month of May, the first two books were printed, and they are being distributed throughout the MAC Region. In August, all five basic courses will be available.
Each Theological Institution in the Region has a Coordinator for the School of Leadership program and this person trains the district leaders, local directors and the teachers for each church. All the members of the church who have an interest in serving in the different ministry areas can take the classes that will be offered in the local church. No previous theological training is necessary.

Reverend Franlym Pena is the Coordinator for the School of Leadership at SENDAS for the countries of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. He has the responsibility of presenting the books, explaining how the courses function, as well as training the leaders in the program. He has been traveling to many different locations providing this training to churches. The first orientation workshops were given in Pavas, Desamparados, Heredia and Tibas.

The first church to start the program is the Church of Jesus Christ: Saver of Souls, located in Desampardos with Oscar Cespedes serving as Pastor. There are eight students in the program.
The School of Leadership program offers five basic courses that give training in general areas, preparing the leader to serve with excellence. The five courses include the following:
- Discovering my Gifts in Christ
- The DNA of the Nazarenes
- Worship as a Lifestyle
- The Bible and its Message
- Principles for a Christian Life
After studying the basic courses, the student may choose one of the seven specialty areas in ministry that include six courses for each area. These studies allow the person to specialize in an area of ministry in the local church in which the person feels a calling. The seven specialty areas include the following:
- Ministry Leadership
- Youth Ministry
- Intercultural Ministry
- Evangelism
- Christian Discipleship
- Compassionate Ministries
- Communications and Literature
Upon completing the curriculum in the School of Leadership Program, the Nazarene Institution in the area grants the Certificate in Specialized Ministry. The local church recognizes this certificate of ministry.
Theological Education is now closer than ever before in the MAC Region with the addition of the School of Leadership program. For more information in Spanish you can visit the Resource section on the MAC Theological Education website: www.etmac.ws.
